Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia

Description

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia purchased the vacant Imperial Theatre at 106 Gerrish Street in 2003, right next door to the facility we had occupied since 1987.

Since then, a number of improvements have been undertaken to the facility with assistance from local, provincial, and federal funding. The renewed Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre began offering an annual Entertainment Series starting in 2007.MIPAC has played host to a number of distinguished artists from across Canada. Celebrated artists like Bruce Cockburn, George Canyon, Matt Andersen, Joe Sealy, Joel Plaskett, and Jill Barber have all performed on our stage. The theatre is used for many purposes, including rehearsals for Mermaid's own flagship productions; it is rented by a variety of community groups for events both public and private; it has been used for movie location filming; and Mermaid has begun using the theatre for school-time matinee performances for the benefit of area students and preschoolers, bringing world-class theatre to children from all around the Annapolis Valley.
